This one-page Word template covers what editors expect in a cover letter: the question, main finding, fit with the journal, and required declarations.

What is inside

  • Address block and greeting
  • Two to three sentences on what you did and found
  • Why the journal, in one honest sentence
  • Declarations: originality, authorship, ethics, funding, conflicts, registration

How to use it

  1. Keep it to one page and avoid hype.
  2. State the main finding with a number.
  3. Make only declarations that are true and that your co-authors have approved.
  4. Check whether the journal wants suggested reviewers.

Example (illustrative)

A closing declaration: All authors approved the submission, and the work is not under consideration elsewhere. (Illustrative.)

Limitations and cautions

Editors differ in what they want, and some journals use a form in the submission system instead of a letter. Keep declarations accurate; do not state that all authors approved the paper unless they did. The file is free to use and edit, and the footer credits MedResearch Ninja.
